Interstate 88I-88 in Illinois came into being in 1988 and goes from the Quad Cities to the western suburbs of Chicago creating an east-west alternative to and from Chicago across the state. From US 30 near Sterling/Rock Falls, I-88 is the Ronald Reagan (formerly East-West) Tollway. West of that point, it is not a tollway. In DuPage County, it is surrounded by office and research campuses from Aurora to Oak Brook. At the east end, it eventually merges into I-290/Eisenhower Exressway rather than continuing to the Chicago Loop. On the west end, it ends at I-80 where the highway becomes Illinois 92. The route was previously designated Illinois 5, Illinois 190, and TOLL US 30. |
