Illinois Highway Ends

I-72

Interstate 72 In Illinois, I-72 starts at the Mississippi River by Hannibal, Missouri and goes to I-57 in Champaign. It would be a large part of the proposed Chicago-Kansas City route if it is completed through Missouri. As it is, it ends in Hannibal, Missouri. Traffic is generally light on most of the highway - especially west of Jacksonville. I-72 is a more recent highway with the first section completed in the late 1970s and the final section west of I-72 completed around 2000 with the construction of the new bridge at Hannibal.
