US 36
US 40US 40 in Illinois goes from East St. Louis to the Indiana line near Terre Haute. It largely follows the route of the old historic National Road, but diverges from it in places. For almost its entire length in Illinois, it closely parallels I-70 which has superceded it in terms of importance. Where US 40 doesn't parallel I-70, it multiplexes with it (both east and west ends in Illinois). US 40 begins in Utah and ends in Atlantic City, New Jersey passing through ten states. |
