Illinois State Route 22

Illinois 22 goes from Fox River Grove to Highland Park in the prosperous northern suburbs of Chicago. Much of the road either has been widened or is planned to be.

The original Illinois route 22 went in a C shape forming a beltline around Chicago. It went from Lake Forest to Crystal Lake to Aurora to Joliet and then east almost to Indiana. The part from Joliet to Indiana became US 30 in 1926. The part from route 19 to US 30 became US 430 for a short while, but is now route 31. Since the 1930s, it has followed close to its current route.
