Illinois State Route 5Illinois route 5 currently goes from US-67 to I-80 in Rock Island County. Except for the westernmost mile or so, the road is a mostly divided, multilane highway. Illinois 5 was the designation for the East-West Tollway and freeway that crossed the state before it became I-88 in 1990.Before this route, Illinois 5 existed as a short route in the Rockford-Belvidere area, but this was only a short part of the original route that went from east of Dubuque, Iowa to Chicago. |
