Illinois State Route 4Illinois route 4 now runs from Springfield to a point north of Murphysboro in southwestern Illinois. thru Sangamon, Macoupin, Madison, St. Clair, Randolph, Perry and Jackson Counties. In the Sprinfield area, it serves as the western belt line ending at BL 55 NNE of central Springfield. Most of the remainder is two lane highway with many jogs on the southern end.The original Illinois 4 went from Chicago to St. Louis over what became US 66. Illinois 4-A, a designation related to the original route 4, went from Chicago to Joliet over a large part of current Illinois 171's route. |
