Interstate 90

I-90 runs across exteme northern Indiana, staying within five miles of Michigan for the majority of the route, but never crossing into the state. It runs entirely on the "Indiana East-West Toll Road" (the only current toll highway in Indiana), and is duplexed with I-80 for all but twenty-one miles. This twenty-one mile stretch goes through a heavy industrial area of large integrated steel mills and oil refineries. The Indiana Toll Road connects the Chicago Skyway with the Ohio Turnpike. The Indiana Toll Road was established in 1951 and constructed between 1954 and 1956. Although it is owned by the State of Indiana, the Toll Road is is operated by Cintra-Macquarie, a Spanish-Australian consortium (as of June, 2006).

Until the mid-1960s, I-90 followed the Tri-State Highway (current Borman Expressway), but it swapped places with I-94. That is the only route change that has occurred in Indiana.

I-90 connects Seattle with Boston via Spokane, Sioux Falls, Madison, Rockford, Chicago, South Bend, Toledo, Cleveland, Buffalo, Syracuse, and Albany. It is the longest Interstate highway.
