Interstate 80I-80 runs through exteme northern Indiana, running along the Indiana Toll road until changing course at the western border of Gary to bypass Chicago. The part of I-80 in Lake County is known as the Frank J. Borman Expressway (renamed from Tri-State Expressway in 1969). The westernmost part of the Borman is the oldest freeway in Indiana having been built in 1952 as SR 420. The Indiana Toll Road was established in 1951 and constructed between 1954 and 1956. The toll section of I-80 is cosigned with I-90, the untolled section is cosigned with I-94. Thus the entire length Of I-80 in Indiana is multiplexed.I-80 connects San Francisco and New York via Sacramento, Reno, Salt Lake City, Omaha, Des Moines, Chicago, South Bend, Toledo, Cleveland, and Youngstown. |
