I-65 |
Interstate 64I-64 goes across the southern portion of the state, connecting the Louisville and Evansville areas. I-64 itself connects St. Louis and Norfolk via Louisville, Lexington, and Charleston (WV). In Indiana, it is the most recent of interstates having been completed in the late 1970s. Upon completeion, it replaced US 460 as the primary east-west route in southern Indiana.At one time the road was planned to connect Louisville and Vincennes closely following the route of US 150, but a concerted effort by Evansville interests brought the interstate route further south. Still, it took an Interstate spur (I-164) to give an interstate to Evansville, and a main-line interstate still hasn't made its way to Evansville despite constant efforts by the Indiana DOT to do so. |
