US 30

US 30 is a major highway going from the Illinois line in Dyer to the Ohio line east of Fort Wayne. Cities served include Fort Wayne, Columbia City, Warsaw, Plymouth, Valparaiso, Merrillville, Hobart, and Schererville. It is important enough that it is to be divided through virtually all of its route in Indiana, and even has interchanges at some busy crossings. Around Fort Wayne, US 30 multiplexes with I-69 and I-469 while the old route became SR 930. If the Illiana Expressway is ever built in northwest Indiana, US 30 will likely follow that road.

US 30 is a combination of the historic Lincoln Highway and Yellowstone Trail. The Lincoln Highway angled up to Elkhart, then went through South Bend and New Carlise before angling down to Valparaiso. US 30 cuts across northern Indiana south of that route. Without the toll road to the north, I-80 would have likely gone alongside US 30.
