State Road 37SR 37 is a discontinuous route consisting of two sections. Overall, it is long highway going southwest from the Ohio line northeast of Fort Wayne down to the Ohio River in Tell City. From the 1950s to the 1970s, the road was a single section covering the entire distance. In the early 1980s, the portion from Marion to Fort Wayne was decommissioned leaving SR 37 in two sections with the major one being the section from Marion south to the Ohio River. The original route was from Indianapolis south to Tell City. Eventually, SR 37 swallowed up portions of the original SR 13 route, SR 9, US 24, and SR 14 northeast of Indianapolis creating a long diagonal route. Because of the I-465 multiplex situation and the proposed I-69 extension, the future of SR 37 as a major route is in doubt. |
